Editor-in-Chief

Nathan M. Trexler is a 2008 graduate of Penn State University where he earned a B.A. in History and a minor in Film Studies. While at Penn State, he was committed to service activities and volunteered with the Penn State Student United Way. Nathan is currently a second-year student at Widener University School of Law and has excelled in the classroom, placing him in the top 5% of his class. During his time at Widener he has achieved Dean’s List honors each semester, earned certificates of achievement in Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Legal Methods II, Appellate Advocacy, and was awarded a Merit scholarship. Nathan earned a staff position on the Widener Law Review and is a member of the 2010 Widener Law Review Symposium Committee. Additionally, Nathan is the Vice-President of the Legal Golf Association and a Student Bar Association representative for the Health Law Society. In the summer of 2009, Nathan interned for the Honorable Jack A. Panella of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, where he researched and wrote memorandum opinions concerning criminal and civil appeals.

Eric J. Laury, graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania where he earned a B.S. in Forensic and Toxicological Chemistry and a minor in Biology.  Immediately after his undergraduate experience, he set out to experience the business world, and in the process had the opportunity to live in several major U.S. cities including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Denver.  The positions he held were as diverse as the locations and included Corporate Project Manager, Media Planner/Buyer, Sales and Marketing Manager, and Entrepreneur.   Eric is currently a second year student at Widener University School of Law and has earned a staff position with the Widener Law Review. During his studies at Widener, Eric has attained Dean’s List honors, serves as President of the Intellectual Property Society, is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, and participates as a Student Ambassador.  During the summer of 2009, he studied International and Comparative Law in Sydney, Australia with law students from around the country. Eric is looking forward to a future in Patent and Intellectual Property Law, with specific interest in the areas of nanotechnology, bioscience, and genetics.

Glavin, graduated from Temple University earning a B.S. in Civil Engineering.  During her undergraduate career, Patricia was also a member of Temple’s Division I Women’s Lacrosse Team.  After graduation, Patricia worked for L.F. Driscoll Co. in the field of construction management as an assistant project manager.  Patricia is currently a second year student at Widener University School of Law.  During her studies at Widener, Patricia has achieved Dean’s List honors each semester. Irene J. Levy graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Paralegal Studies from Widener University’s Legal Education Institute. During her undergraduate education, Irene worked full time as a paralegal. Irene is currently a third-year evening division student at Widener University School of Law and is the recipient of the Law School’s Presidential Scholarship. During her studies at Widener, Irene has received Dean’s List honors and placed in the top 10% of her class. Irene has also obtained a staff position on The Widener Law Review. This past summer, Irene worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable Susan Peikes Gantman in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. Irene is currently employed as a law clerk for Kevin O’Neill, Esquire, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Articles Editors

Kaan Ekiner graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in International Relations: Diplomacy and World Order, with a concentration in European Studies. As an undergraduate Kaan interned for United States Senator Thomas R. Carper in his Wilmington, Delaware office as well as in the Human Resources Department of the international industrial gas corporation Air Liquide. Kaan is currently a second-year student at Widener University School of Law and has earned a position as a staff member on The Widener Law Review. In addition, Kaan is a Widener Merit Scholar, has received Dean’s Honors for both semesters during his first year of law school, and certificates of achievement in Torts and Legal Methods II. In the summer of 2009, Kaan served as a law clerk for the Court of Common Pleas in and for New Castle County, Delaware.

Rebecca T. Goslin

Allison L. Segal graduated cum laude from Drew University in northern New Jersey with a B.A. in Philosophy and a double minor in Religious Studies and Humanities.  During her undergraduate career Allison interned for the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services.  This past summer she interned for Judge Marie E. Lihotz of the New Jersey Appellate Division.  Allison is currently a second-year student at Widener University School of Law and has earned a position as a staff member on The Widener Law Review.  With a love of travel, Allison hopes to work in the field of International Law, with specific interest in international human rights and comparative constitutional law.

Ryan M. Turner, graduated from Penn State University, earning a B.A. in Telecommunications and a minor in Business. Ryan is currently a second year student at Widener University School of Law. Along with earning a position as a staff member on Widener Law Review, he has been selected to the Dean’s List each semester and has earned a Widener Merit Scholarship. Ryan has participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Semester of Service Project last year and volunteered his time at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Ryan is currently a legal intern at the Chester County District Attorney’s Office in West Chester, PA and will continue this position throughout the year. Ryan hopes to pursue a career in criminal law or real estate law.

Albert C. Sardella, graduated from Penn State University earning his B.A. in Sociology and Criminal Justice.  Currently, Albert is a second-year regular division student at Widener University School of Law.  Since coming to Widener, Albert has earned several distinctions including Dean’s Honors List every semester and a staff position on Widener Law Review.  Additionally, Albert serves as Vice President of the Justinian Society and a member of the ADR Society.

Paige Jordan Schmittinger, graduated a year early from the University of Delaware in Newark, DE where she earned her B.S. in both Psychology and Sociology. Paige is currently in her second year at Widener University School of Law and has earned a staff position with the Widener Law Review. She also serves as an Auction Chairperson for the Public Interest Law Alliance, where she hopes to raise over $15,000 for fellowships for Widener students who do public interest work. In addition, Paige is currently one of the student representatives for LexisNexis. Over the summer, Paige clerked for an attorney in Wilmington, DE doing employment and personal injury law. After graduation, Paige hopes to practice in Delaware, but is unsure as to what area of law she wants to practice.

Daniel C. W. Lang graduated from the State University of New York at Alfred with a B.S. in Surveying Engineering Technology.  During his undergraduate studies, Dan was a co-captain of the Alfred State College Men’s Soccer Team, and was also named a Distinguished Academic All-American by the NJCAA in 2006.  Dan is currently a second year student at Widener University School of Law.  During his studies at Widener, Dan has been selected to the Dean’s List each semester.  Additionally, Dan received a certificate of achievement in Torts and earned a position as a staff-member on the Widener Law Review.  In the summer of 2009, Dan worked as an intern with the Widener Environmental Law and Natural Resources Clinic.  Upon his graduation from Widener Law in 2011, Dan hopes to pursue a career in public interest.

Nicole L. Phillips graduated summa cum laude in 2008 from Widener University in Chester, PA, earning a B.S. in Criminal Justice and Spanish. During her undergraduate career, Nicole served as a reading tutor at local elementary schools, interned for two years at the Delaware County Pre-Trial/Bail Services Unit, participated in a service project in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and gained membership to an array of national and international honors societies. Nicole is currently a second-year student at Widener University School of Law and is the recipient of the Law School’s Presidential Scholarship. Thus far, Nicole has received dean’s honors for both semesters of her first year, as well as certificates of achievement in Legal Methods I and II. Nicole has also obtained a staff position on The Widener Law Review, and serves as Auction Co-Chair for the Public Interest Law Alliance. This past summer, Nicole worked as a legal intern for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, where she contributed to updating the Office’s Legal Digest: Prosecution of Juveniles.

Monica L. Scherer, graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Environmental Policy and Behavior. Shortly after graduation Monica moved to Washington D.C. where she worked on Capitol Hill before moving to Philadelphia to pursue a career in environmental work. Monica is currently a third year extended division student at Widener University School of Law and has joined the staff of the Widener Law Review. Monica also works for Alaska Wilderness League, an environmental nonprofit who works at the federal level on a variety of issues affecting Alaska’s wild land and waters.

Associate Editors

Maria C. Janoski earned an A.B. in English, with emphases in biblical literature and American literature, from Cornell University.  While at Cornell, Maria served as president of the Delta Rho Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority and was named four consecutive years to the National Dean’s List.  Maria also earned an M.S. in criminal justice from Marywood University in Scranton, PA.  For her masters thesis, Maria designed and conducted an original qualitative study of the Lackawanna County Drug Court, which was nominated for the Melvin Medal for Excellence in Scholarly Research.  She is currently co-authoring an academic article based on the results of this research.  Maria is a member of Alphi Phi Sigma, National Criminal Justice Honor Society; Pi Gamma Mu, International Honor Society in Social Sciences; and Alpha Epsilon Lambda, National Honor Society for Graduate and Professional Students.  Maria is now a second year, regular division, student at Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, DE.  While at Widener, Maria has consistently been named to the dean’s list and has earned both a Widener Merit Scholarship and membership on the Widener Law Review.  Before starting law school, Maria worked as a paralegal for the litigation firm of Beemer & Beemer in Clarks Summit, PA.  Her work there focused almost exclusively on large toxic tort cases.  Maria is currently a law clerk for the litigation firm of Williams Cuker Berezofsky in Philadelphia, PA.  She hopes to practice in the areas of toxic torts and complex litigation.  Maria is a member of the Sierra Club, the Nature Conservancy, the National Parks Conservation Association and serves as an ambassador for the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassadors Network.

Matthew Bilker graduated from Penn State University with dual degrees in Political Science and Journalism. After spending some time interning for the Philadelphia Eagles, he decided to pursue his J.D. and enrolled in the Widener University School of Law in the Fall of 2009. Since becoming a student at Widener, Matthew has earned a place in the top 5% of his class. Additionally, he has received a Widener Merit Scholarship and has spent two semesters on the Deans’ Honors List. In addition to his work on the Widener Law Review, Matthew is also a member of the Moe Levine Trial Advocacy Honor Society. Matthew plans on pursuing a career in family law and civil litigation.

Senior Staff

Morrison Kent Fairbairn, graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ with a B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish. Morrison is currently a second year student at Widener University School of Law and has earned a position on Widener Law Review as a staff member. Morrison spent the summer after his first year of law school interning with both the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Law Center and the Attorney General’s Office for the State of Delaware in Wilmington. A proponent of civic engagement, Morrison dedicated one year of service with an AmeriCorps program called City Year before entering law school. In his first year at Widener, Morrison has been involved with the Public Interest Law Association and has participated in programs organized by the Public Interest Resource Center such as the “MLK 12 Weeks of Service” and the “FLIP” program.

Mitchell Palazzo graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2008 earning a B.S. in Political Science while being invited into the National Political Science Honors Society.  While at West Chester, Mitchell helped organize several charitable events including a clothing drive for the Salvation Army, a blood drive for American Red Cross and a fund raiser for the ASPCA.  In his first full year of law school, Mitchell was awarded dean’s honors and earned a position as a Widener Law Review staff member.  He also is on the executive board for Widener’s Health Law Society and has written for their Colloquium.  Mitchell received pro bono distinction for the work he did with the Office of the Public Defender in Camden, N.J. during the summer of 2009.  His responsibilities included interviewing clients and summarizing discovery for public defenders
