Who is Eligible?
- 1RD, 1ED (who are switching to RD and will have completed 27 credits by the start of their 2L fall Semester) and 2 ED students.
- Those who fulfill the 2.7 GPA requirement.
ELIGIBILITY FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS: 1ED candidates who are transferring to the Regular Division AND will complete at least 27 credit hours by the end of the summer (contingent on acceptance into the Regular Division program and 2.7 GPA.) are eligible to participate.
Important Dates:
- Sunday, May 9th – Competition Opens.
- Sunday, June 20th – Competition Closes (last day to pick up a packet.)
- Sunday, July 11th – Last day to submit a competition paper.
- Sunday, August 1st – Notification of membership.
Packet pick-up and Submission
- All pick-ups and submissions are done via TWEN
- Students must add the WLR Summer Writing Competition TWEN page
- To pick up the competition packet, click on Assignment Pick-Up and upload the packet (time stamped).
- Papers must be submitted by 5:00 pm three weeks from date of pick up.
- To submit your paper, click on the Assignment Drop-Box and upload your paper.
Competition Requirements
- Submitted papers must adhere to the format, style and length requirements outlined in the competition packet. A sample law review article will be available on TWEN.
- The competition is a closed-packet and students may not perform additional research beyond the materials included in the packet.
- Students must submit their papers by 5:00 pm three weeks from pick-up.
- Each submission must include a Grade Release Form and Code of Conduct Certification. These documents will be submitted to Debbe Patrick, WLR secretary.
- Submissions may also include a letter of intent (optional).
Membership
- Submissions will be read and scored by the WLR Board.
- Submission scores are determined by both GPA (1/3) and the strength of the applicant’s paper (2/3).
- Applicants with the highest scores will be invited membership to WLR.
- Applicants will be notified via telephone on Sunday, August 1st.
- New members will be required to attend New Member Orientation on Saturday, August 28th.
Ineligibility:
Those who fall into either of the following categories are INELIGIBLE to participate in the summer writing competition:
(1) Candidates who are not completing their second semester of 1RD or 2ED in the spring prior to the competition, OR
(2) Candidates whose GPA is below a 2.7 by the end of the spring semester prior to the competition.
